),

[eng] Introduction: Iron is an essential micronutrient for humans, mostly found in erythrocytes
forming part of hemoglobin. An iron deficiency leads to a decrease in hemoglobin formation
leading to iron deficiency anemia. This is a very frequent condition in general and with a high
prevalence in athletes with negative repercussions on their physical performance. Specifically,
the prevalence increases in female athletes due to menstruation or loss of iron by microtrauma
in runners or marathon athletes, inadequate iron intake in the diet, etc.
Hypothesis: Resistance athletes manifest iron deficits in blood that negatively influence sports
performance and require increased dietary intake.
Objective: to determine the influence of a low dietary intake of iron on the blood supply of
iron and on the sport performance in federated women in athletics.
Method: case-control study where the target population of the study is composed of female
athletes enrolled in the Athletics Federation of the Region of Murcia, aged between 19 and 45
years, who train four times a week resistance race and that Do not take functional foods or
supplements or iron-rich medicines. The sample will complete the food frequency
questionnaire CFA 93ENCV and depending on the results will be divided into 2 groups;
Group 1 (with iron deficiency in the diet) and group 2 (normal iron levels). The analytical
parameters are serum iron (μg / dl), ferritin (ng / ml), transferrin (mg / dl), hematocrit (g / dl),
hematocrit (%) and corpuscular volume (FL) by blood extraction and will perform an exercise
test where their performance will be assessed at the start of the study. For 12 weeks, group 1
will receive a nutritional intervention in order to increase their blood iron levels and group 2
will continue with their usual diet. At the end of the study, the analytical parameters and the
stress test will be determined again.
It will be analyzed whether dietary iron deficiency adversely affects your athletic
performance. |
