L'Afrontament dels pares i mares de fills amb discapacitat

[cat] El naixement d'un fill implica canvis a la relació de parella, ja que s'hauran de reconstruir i reformular les formes de relació, l'organització familiar i s'incorporaran nous rols a desenvolupar relacionats amb la paternitat. Aquests canvis però, es veuran amplificats si el nadó pateix una discapacitat doncs les expectatives dipositades en relació al naixement del fill s'hauran vist truncades i es necessitarà un període d'adaptació a la nova situació, la qual cosa suposarà la necessitat d'un ajustament major de la parella. L'afrontament que els pares i mares facin en relació a la notícia de la discapacitat del seu fill, esdevindrà un fet important a l'hora de restablir l'equilibri familiar, assumir les responsabilitats i oferir-se suport mutu. Els homes i les dones tenen diferents maneres de relacionar-se i afrontar les situacions estressants i això condicionarà, indubtablement, les relacions familiars. Per tant, per poder oferir el suport que necessiten les famílies de fills amb discapacitat hem de conèixer com es produeix el procés d'afrontament, quines són les preocupacions i actuacions envers l'infant i com les diferències de gènere influeixen a l'ajustament de la situació de discapacitat del fill. D'aquesta manera, podrem intervenir específicament amb cada un dels membres de la família i prevenir conflictes relacionals així com treballar per aconseguir una millor qualitat de vida a l'àmbit familiar.
