El transhumanisme i l’obsolescència del cos en l’art dels nous mitjans: el cas de Stelarc, ORLAN i Neil Harbisson

Abstract

[cat] La idea del transhumanisme i de l’obsolescència del cos humà en l’art s’actualitza i radicalitza amb l’arribada de les noves tecnologies i la biotecnologia. Diversos artistes exploren aquests conceptes com a tema del seu art, mitjà d’expressió artística i forma de vida. Així, expandeixen, modifiquen i amplifiquen el seu cos per evolucionar, fent d’aquest procés i d’ells mateixos una obra d’art. El que es pretén en el present Treball Fi de Grau és analitzar aquesta nova realitat i exemplificar-la a través de tres artistes: Stelarc, ORLAN i Neil Harbisson. La idea essencial i comú en els tres casos és que el cos humà està obsolet; la recerca de la pròpia evolució i el disseny del cos humà es converteix en una nova manifestació artística que cada un d’ells articula de manera diferent.

[eng] The idea of transhumanism and the obsolescence of the body is updated and radicalised in the art world with the arrival of new technologies and biotechnology. Different artists explore these concepts as their main artistic theme, through artistic expression and life form. Therefore, they expand, modify and amplify their body to evolve, making the process of it and themselves, a work of art. The intention of this dissertation is to analyse this new reality and exemplify it through three different artists: Stelarc, ORLAN and Neil Harbisson. The key idea is that the human body is obsolete - the search for ones own evolution and the design of the human body turns in to an artistic protest that each one of the artists in question express in a different manner.
