[spa] El presente artículo estudia la figura del alcalde mayor o teniente del corregidor de Palma entre los años 1719 y 1812. El alcalde mayor asesoraba al corregidor en materia de justicia civil y criminal de primera instancia y le substituía en los cabildos durante sus ausencias con el fin de subordinar el gobierno municipal a las autoridades regias frente a la oligarquía local de los regidores. El objetivo es estudiar las atribuciones y el perfil sociológico y profesional de los alcaldes mayores del ayuntamiento de Palma entre 1719 y 1812 extensible con un epílogo hasta el año 1835. [eng] This article contains a study of the alcalde mayor or teniente de Corregidor the city of Palma between 1719 and 1812. The alcalde mayor advised the magistrate of civil and criminal justice of first instance and replacing him in the councils during his absences in order to subordinate the municipal government to Royal authorities against the local oligarchy of the aldermen.
