[spa] En las últimas décadas, cada vez se hacían más evidentes los efectos negativos del turismo, en especial a nivel medioambiental. Por eso, algunos lugares como es el caso de Baleares han ido implantando progresivamente algún tipo de gravamen orientado a combatir estos efectos perjudiciales. En este punto, nos centraremos en analizar qué efectos ha podido tener la inclusión de este tipo de exacción en el sector turístico balear, que beneficios ha obtenido la sociedad balear a través de la financiación de este tributo y se comparará el Impuesto sobre Estancias Turísticas vigente actualmente en Baleares con su antecesor que se introdujo en el año 2002, con el Impuesto sobre Estancias en Establecimientos Turísticos vigente en Cataluña y también se contrastará con otros impuestos de la misma naturaleza existentes en el resto del mundo, sabiendo que esta tipología de exacción no es habitual en un destino principalmente de sol y playa con una gran estacionalización como es el caso de las Islas Baleares.
