[eng] The response to stress is innate, and it manifests when an organism suffers a threat that can challenge its homeostatic integrity. It is regulated by a circuit of neural channels and cells that secrete a series of hormones by humoral route.
It is known that stress can be an influential factor in pathologies associated with the alteration of circadian rhythms, such as the sleep-wake rhythm. One of the most common disorders is insomnia. The effects of sleep stress can be different depending on the nature and intensity of the stimulus, the time and duration of the application, and the individual stress or tension or vulnerability.
As a continuation of the work by Cano et al (2008) and Reyna (2018), this project aims to study the relationship between stress and activity-sleep rates at rat. For this, the study of the relationship between a stress stimulus (cat odor) known to the rat and the possible alteration of the activity-resting rate was considered during the 24 hours after exposure to stimulation.
A decrease in activity was observed during the daytime phase of the second week of experimentation, corresponding to the stimulus exposure. The cat smell represents a "partial stimulus of the predator" and causes uncertainty (anxiety). |
