Finalment, aquests resultats i futurs

[eng] Suicide is a global problem that is already considered by WHO as the second cause
of death in young people aged between 18 and 25. The Internet is seen as a technological tool
with both, negative and positive effects on people's health. Thus, several studies have been
carried out to assess the relationship between internet use and online information about suicide
with the risk of suicide behavior. The objective of this study is to evaluate this relationship in
the Spanish university population. Participants, in addition to sociodemographic variables,
have responded about the use of the Internet that they do for non-academic purposes, the
frequency at which they have seen information about suicide cases in different places of
Internet, if they have searched for suicide and what type of search and, finally, they had to
respond to the PHQ-9 and the Plutchik suicide risk scale. The results show a higher risk of
suicide in those people who use the Internet more than 5 hours a day at weekends, who have
seen information in social networks and have ever searched for suicide. Finally, these results
and future studies will allow to advance in the online prevention of suicidal behavior. |
