[eng] Currently, a large amount of vitamin supplements are prescribed to the pregnant woman in order to
avoid complications (such as premature births, low birth weight newborns, neurological problems in
the fetus, anemia in the mother ...).
It is true that the diet of many pregnant women is deficient in vitamins and minerals, but not in all
these women there are deficiencies. Pregnancy represents a challenge from the nutritional point of
view, because the nutrient needs are increased and an alteration in its intake can affect maternalfetal health. Currently, the diet of many pregnant mothers is insufficient in micronutrients, being
necessary its supplementation.
The objective of this study will be to determine the influence of vitamin D supplementation during
pregnancy and to verify its relationship with the low incidence of premature births and low birth
weight newborns. This study will focus on the gestational period. For this, a blind experimental
study will be carried out, in which two groups of healthy pregnant women will be compared,
without chronic or acute diseases that can interfere in the absorption of the nutrients, primitive and
with an age between 25-30 years. They will be assigned randomly, and with the informed consent of
the patient, to two groups. One of them will be supplemented with 800 IU / day of vitamin D from
weeks 11 to 13 of gestation, and the placebo group will continue with standardized vitamin
supplementation. Likewise, weight and body composition data will also be analyzed, as well as
physical exercise.
