Aproximació al Neogen de Santa Eugènia (Mallorca, Illes Balears, Mediterrània occidental).

Abstract

The aim of this paper is a study of Neogene outcrops in Sta. Eugènia zone located between Inca and Palma basins (Mallorca island, Western Mediterranean). This work planed stratigraphy zone and adduced new sedimentary and structural data. Inedited Messinian, Pliocene and Quaternary deposits are described as higher than contemporary Mallorca outcrops. The deposition on the palaeobasin show tectonically influence (Sta. Eugènia-Sencelles fault). They are mainly littoral and they are a terrestrial ranger contribution. The study confirm the regional sedimentary pattern constituted from: a) brackish Miocene with lagoon episode, b) restitude marine conditions in early Pliocene, c) littoral deposition and temperate beach in middle Pliocene, and d) aeolian systems and palaeo-soils in low Pliocene and Quaternary. Differences between Palma and Inca palaeobasins sedimentation and existence of tectonically activity in Pliocene and Quaternary are observed.
