[eng] The educational system is curretly going through a changing and transforming period whose
aim is that of reaching the inclusive education, this is, a school of thought that advocates quality
education for all. In this sense the teaching staff becomes the key piece in the gears of the educational
mechanism, so as to consolidate or strengthen and introduce these ideals in the classroom. Now, what
do teachers need to carry out such a complex task? The present study establishes the relationship
between the concepts of inclusive education and two of the specific skills that are essential to carry out
the guiding principles of this philosophy: the teachers’ self-esteem and motivation. Our research has
been based on the exhaustive bibliographic analysis of the state of the art papers, which has shown that
highly self-esteemed and highly motivated teachers possess more strategies to implement inclusion.
Besides, it has been proved that pupils’ self-esteem and motivation depend to a great extend on those
of the teachers’. Therefore, the conclusion is that we must fight for the inclusive education, bearing in
mind that teaching staff is at the base of this change.
