[eng] The Spanish National Health System is facing a migratory phenomenon that needs a cultural approach. Given this situation, nurses should be the promoters of holistic care strategies.
For these reasons, in this review it has been proposed to evaluate the cultural competence of nursing at the national level. In addition to knowing the care demands of this population, the existing barriers in health care and the proposals that guarantee quality care.
To carry out the bibliographic search, the metasearch engines EBSCOhost and Ovid and the specific databases PubMed, Ibecs, LILACS, Cuiden Plus and Scielo were selected. In addition, the limits and inclusion-exclusion criteria used are the publications located between 2009 - 2019, the duplication of articles and if they have an interest in research.
We have found that the cultural competencies of professionals are linked to cultural contact and their training. On the part of the immigrant population, there is a need to understand the therapeutic process from their cultural vision of health-disease. The existing barriers arise from the sociopolitical / economic context, the cultural differences in the perception of health, the prejudices / stereotypes, the language, the health system and the training of professionals. Finally, the different proposals are directed to two levels, the academic to carry out a multilevel / transversal training and the sanitary to work both the structural and personal elements
To conclude, there is a need to conduct research that bases cultural models of nursing under the cultural framework of immigrants, thus showing unmet needs.
