[eng] Introduction: patellofemoral pain syndrome is a disease which rating incidence has increased recently. This pathology is mainly characterized by an anterior, posterior and peripatellar pain in the knee joint reproduced resting, which is less frecuent, or loading activities such as running, jumping, climbing… Consequently many controversal treatments try to solve such difficulties.
Objective: the objective of the present study is to determinate the eficacy of patellar taping combined with exercise in people suffering from PFPS, compared with no application.
Methods: bibliographic research was made in May 2019, it used MedLine, BVS and Cochrane Library as data bases adquiring all type of studys which included patellar taping and exercises applied on the lower limb as treatment method in patients with PFPS.
Results: the present study has made an analisy over 14 studies, which show how patellar taping applied all alone or even combinated with therapeutic exercise on the lower limb, improves pain significantly. On the other hand, exercise as an only way of treatment and Kinesiotaping show similar results. Aparently patellar taping seems not to provide improvements in funtionality, measured through strength and muscular response, compared with no application and with lower limb exercises.
Conclusion: there is no need of patellar taping as a way to approach treatment in PFPS insomuch as treatment alternatives bestow the same results, working by an undetermined mechanism.
