[eng] The holm oak trees of Serra de Tramuntana have a great environmental and
landscaping value, and in the last decades they have suffered an important regression,
giving way to other forest masses fewer features of our region. That is the reason why
in the present work, the regression of holm oak trees will be analyzed according to two
common meteorological phenomena in the island of Mallorca. The study is based on a
comparison between a series of episodes of snowfall and drought, in the period
between 1995 and 2015. In order to make this comparison, two areas occupied mainly
by this plant have been delimited. The NDVI index has been applied to determine the
state of vegetation by using satellite images and remote sensing . It has been shown
that the phenomenon that has greatest impact on holm oaks are droughts, because
they are longer and more repetitive in time.
