[eng] During the 21st century there has been an increase in the prevalence of incurable pathologies of hereditary origin such as Huntington's disease (HD) and cystic fibrosis (CF). However, there are many other increasing degenerative pathologies in which the hereditary factor is not the only one to take into account, such as Alzheimer's (AD), the cause of which is not yet fully known. Therefore, we must emphasize its prevention, focusing on the modifiable factors involved, such as food, and specifically, the Mediterranean diet. The review is based on a search strategy with 3 levels, and the combination of our descriptors with the Booleans "AND and / or" OR ". A total of 143 articles have been found that meet all the criteria, of which we selected 27 articles, the information of which has been considered useful to answer the established objectives. According to the articles used, correct adherence to this type of diet is considered, as a general rule, a protective factor against such diseases, thanks to the beneficial properties of the chemical compounds that make up some typical foods in this diet. Despite this, there are some foods for which no beneficial evidence has been demonstrated, even damaging the development of diseases. More research is needed in this field, but even so, the studies that have managed to adapt show promising results. They cannot compensate for the abnormalities caused in the body, but it seems to be a solid ground to start with therapeutic interventions
