[eng] Introduction: Type I diabetes mellitus (DM1) is a chronic disease that is
characterized by high blood glucose levels, causing an increase in
cardiovascular risk in people who suffer from it. This type of diabetes is the
most frequent endocrinopathy of metabolic type in childhood. Multiple studies
have shown that the incidence of DM1 in Europe has been increasing in recent
decades, with an average annual increase of around 3%. The feeding
represents a fundamental paper at the time of obtaining a suitable metabolic
control, at the same time as it must assure a suitable nutritional state that allows
the development and normal growth of the childrens, reason why it is necessary
to emphasize the importance of imparting programs of alimentary education for
diabetics.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a group training program on
diabetological nutritional education in children diagnosed with DM1, aged
between 10 and 14 years, who attend the endocrine clinic of the Santa Lucía
Hospital Complex and the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital , after said
intervention.
Patients and method: The design used for the development of the present
study will be quasi-experimental analytical pre and post intervention.
Only one group will be established, in such a way that all the subjects will
receive the group intervention on diabetological nutritional education. This same
group of individuals will be their own control, making a measurement of the
study variables pre- and post-intervention.
The type of sample selected to obtain our sample will be for convenience, that
is, all subjects between the ages of 10 and 14 years will be selected to attend
the endocrinology consultations of both hospitals and meet the criteria for
inclusion and exclusion established for this study.
For the analysis of the effectiveness of the intervention, the glycosylated
hemoglobin will be measured, the KIDMED index will be calculated and the
information provided will be collected through the 24-hour dietary recall, at the
beginning, at 6 months, at 12 months and at 18 months (6 months after the end
of the intervention).
Key words: Type I diabetes mellitus, education, healthy diet, glycosylated
hemoglobin.
