This trend, despite being the common choice throughout the history of political philosophy, may not be the most efficient way to pursue a more just society. This paper analyses an alternative theory of Justice, proposed by Amartya Sen in his work The Idea of Justice. In this work we find a clear contrast between the transcendental approach –focused on finding the perfect justice and its institutions– and the comparative approach –more oriented to combat injustices through the analysis of social achievements. During the development of our work are presented the reasons why Sen considers necessary a change of course in matter of theory of justice; among them is highlighted the central role of an objective, plural and impartial public reasoning able to establish a link between democracy –understood as government by discussion– and the idea itself of justice.
