sobretodo con conductas violentas o delictivas (Walker y Gudjonsson, 2006;
Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson y Skaptadottir, 2011).
[eng] The personality trait of Psychoticism, is defined as an impulsive, creative and poorly
socialized individual, it has been studied in relation to antisocial behaviors and
especially with violent or criminal behaviors (Walker and Gudjonsson, 2006;
Gudjonsson, Sigurdsson and Skaptadottir, 2011). The present study aims to evaluate the
relationship between this variable and certain communication strategies (aggressive and
assertive). The hypotheses of this study postulate that individuals with high
Psychoticism scores will use aggressive strategies such as conflict resolution in the
couple. Just as individuals with low scores in Psychoticism will make use of assertive
strategies.
A group of 30 individuals, who aged are between 20 and 55 years, have been analyzed.
The study variables are three: the Psychoticism factor, aggressive strategies and
assertive strategies. The measuring instruments, the EPQR-A has been used to measure
personality and the CBIP that measures communication styles in the couple. The data
has been analyzed using the SPSS statistical program and the Pearson's correlation
coefficient has been used to measure the relationships between the variables.
The results have shown that, among the study variables, Psychoticism and aggressive
strategies are positively and significantly correlated; and negatively (and almost
significantly) with assertive strategies. The results have also shown that the
Extraversion trait is the most frequent and the assertive strategies the most used in the
studied sample.
It is concluded that impulsive personality traits and aggressive couple conflict resolution
styles have a close link.
