[eng] Increasingly, services of private genomic companies are hired by authorities to search DNA databases in order to identify people or recognize unidentified human remains. This has benefits with regard to public safety, and although these records are legal, we can ask ourselves certain ethical questions about whether users have knowledge about the use that the police make of their DNA or whether they can do it without their consent. During this systematic review, we will discuss the benefits and harms of the use of these databases, the possible consequences of the perpetuation of this privacy for individuals, as well as the quality of Direct Consumer Genetic Testing (DTC).

[spa] Cada día es más frecuente que las autoridades contraten los servicios de empresas privadas genómicas para buscar en bases de datos de ADN con la finalidad de identificar a personas o reconocer restos humanos no identificados. Esto, tiene beneficios respecto a la seguridad pública, y aunque estos registros sean legales, nos podemos plantear ciertas preguntas éticas sobre si los usuarios poseen conocimiento acerca del uso que da la policía a su ADN o de si pueden hacerlo sin su consentimiento. Durante esta revisión sistemática, discutiremos las utilidad y perjuicios del uso de estos bancos de datos, las posibles consecuencias de la perpetuación de esta privacidad para los individuos, así como de la calidad de las Pruebas Genéticas Directas al Consumidor (DTC).
