[eng] Serious mental illnesses - schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and major depressive disorder - are common in the general population. They are complex disorders caused by the interaction between genetic and environmental factors, that usually accumulate in families. From a genetic point of view, these diseases are the result of the combined effect of common and rare variants. In this work, we have focused in identifying specific rare variants due to copy number variations (CNVs) in families with a high prevalence of severe mental disorder. Two families were analysed using SNP array genotyping, The CNVs were identified using the Genome Studio software based on the cnv-Partition algorithm. The results obtained were: a) in family 1 we identified two rare duplications (DUP3p26.3 and DUP16p23.3) and two rare deletions (DEL3q28 and DEL13q31. 2), b) in family 2, there were six rare duplications (DUP3q29, DUP4q35.2, DUP9p24.1, DUP11p14.2, DUP18q22.1 and DUP22q11.23) and three rare deletions (DEL6p21.33, DEL8p23.2 and DEL12q14.1).
