[eng] Gender-based violence is a huge social issue. It is considered one of the main problems
of World Health, based on the historical inequality between men and women affecting
millions of the latter. It is a problem that we must tackle taking into account those aspects
that directly impact the different areas of daily life — through stereotypical behaviors,
attitudes, and beliefs. According to numerous studies, these ways of thinking represent a
socio-cultural risk factor that directly influence the establishment or maintenance of
unhealthy, harmful, or violent relationships. The main objective of this work was to
analyze the beliefs and attitudes related to gender-based violence, in a sample of men
(N=21) who at the time of the study were serving an alternative sentence to prison, in
compliance with the PRIAMA program. This analysis was carried out at the beginning of
the intervention and five months after it. The Inventory of Distorted Thoughts about
Women and the Use of Violence (IPDMUV-R) was used. On the other hand, and as a
secondary objective of the study, we analyzed whether and to what extent changes
occurred in the symptoms of anxiety and depression of the participants in the intervention
program. For that purpose, we used the scale for Generalized Anxiety Disorder - 7 (GAD7) and the Patient Health Questionnaire - 9 (PHQ-9). Results show that, during the first
five months of the intervention, no significant changes were observed in the thoughts and
attitudes of convicts towards gender-based violence. Furthermore, there were no
statistically significant changes in the magnitude of the symptoms of anxiety and
depression of the subjects. Being able to conduct this evaluation once the Program has
finished would be really interesting for a future study.
