[eng] Introduction: Currently, the prevalence of infant colic is high, causing the need for
effective treatments that reduce the symptoms and alleviate the consequences in the life
of the parents and the infant. Infant colic is a behavioral syndrome characterized by
episodes of excessive crying, rigidity, and sleep and eating disturbances. Its treatment can
be carried out through physiotherapy, pharmacology, and complementary therapies. This
makes important the evaluation of these techniques important.
Objetive: Check the effectiveness of the different physiotherapy treatments for infant
colic and compare them with treatments of other fields (pharmacology, probiotics and
reflexology).
Methods: A bibliographic search was carried out in the BVS metasearch engine, the
specific databases Pubmed, LILACS and ScienceDirect, and in the databases of Cochrane
and PEDro reviews. The limits that were applied were the previous 10 years and the
Spanish and English languages.
Results: We have selected 13 articles that talk about treatments for infant colic, of which
two of the articles were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and eleven were systematic
reviews. Its methodological quality has been evaluated in order to clarify the most
effective techniques.
Conclusion: Probiotics appear to be the most effective treatment as they have the most
evidence within the evaluated treatments. Manual therapy ranks second as it can produce
significant benefits, although consistent evidence to support it is lacking. The rest of the
treatments do not show differences and / or sufficient methodological evidence.
