[eng] Sudden infant death is one of the leading causes of infant mortality worldwide after birth. It is
a sudden death caused by different exogenous factors in which infants are not able to survive.
There is an increased risk before the age of six months.
The main objective of this literature review is to determine whether breastfeeding prevents
the risk of sudden infant death and the specific objective is to identify the risk factors
associated with SIDS.
A literature search was conducted in 3 different databases (Pubmed, Cinahl and Scopus)
between the last 10 years, 2011 and 2021. After making a selection of a large number of
articles,of a total of 53 articles initially selected, only 24 met the inclusion criteria for my
studio.
Following the research, breastfeeding is considered a preventive factor for sudden infant
death, and is related to a number of risk factors, such as bed-sharing, maternal smoking, soft cot linen and the prone sleeping position of the infant. We obtain as preventive factors,
breastfeeding and the use of dummies.
