[eng] Justification: Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM) define cancer as “a large
group of diseases characterized by the development of abnormal cells which split, grow and
spread uncontrollably to any part of the body” Today, cancer is one of the main causes of death
in the world. In 2018, 18,1 million new cases were diagnosed worldwide. This figure is
estimated to grow exponentially, and forecasts indicate that by 2040 the number of annual
diagnoses will be around 29,5 million.
In Spain, cancer is also one of the main causes of mortality. In 2020 more than 270.000
were diagnosed in our country. The most frequent types of cancer were colon and rectum,
prostate, breast, lung and bladder. The number of cases diagnosed annually in Spain has been
increasing in the last decades due to the aging of the population and the exposure to risk
factors such as tobacco, alcohol, nutrition, pollution, obesity and sedentary lifestyle among
others.
A healthy diet has been shown to be related to a better quality of life as well as the
prevention of certain diseases. Experts say that after tobacco, poor nutrition is one of the main
external causes that can lead the development of a tumoral disease. Therefore, to follow a
balanced diet that provides with the necessary nutrients to our organism and prevent obesity is
one of the fundamental actions we must follow to prevent the onset of this disease. On the other
hand, the European Code Against Cancer states that diet is a factor to consider when
preventing tumoral diseases in combination with exercise.
Objective: The main objective of this studio will be to relate poor nutrition to the onset
of tumoral diseases. In addition to answer other questions such as: Define cancer and the types
of cancer with the highest incidence; Define balanced diet and its main benefits; Learn the
relationship between the consumption of certain foods and the development of cancer.
Methodology: Descriptive and cross-sectional quantitative study. Patients over the age
of 45 years, regardless of their sex, who voluntarily accept to participate in the study will be
included. We will work with a sample of 500 patients. In addition, we will measure some data
such as weight, IMC, control blood test (to measure parameters such as cholesterol, basal
blood sugar, etc.) whether if they are smokers or not, their diet, if they suffer of any illness
(obesity, DM, dyslipidemia, etc.) It will be monitored regularly for 5 years. At the end of this
period, it will be analyzed how many of these patients have developed any tumoral disease
