[eng] Republicanism in Mallorca during the second decade of the twentieth century, although it was articulated around a single party, initially the Republican Union of Mallorca and, from 1917, the Federal Republican Party, presented significant differences, in terms of conception of federalism and regionalism, as to its relation to dynastic parties, and even as to its relation to the monarchy. La Voz del Pueblo represents one of these currents within the republicanism of Mallorca. It was the personal project of its founder and main editor, Francesc Julià, who led the radical current of Alejandro Lerroux in Mallorca. It is a weekly newspaper showing his stance on the subsistence crisis and his criticism of the Conservative government. It defended a clear Allied position and a strong anti-maurism that brought him closer to the Socialists. In those years, it presented itself as a progressive republicanism, both in terms of the defense of women's rights and in its anticlericalism, anticaciquism and the use of revolutionary language, although it showed contradictions. Finally, in 1919, a few months after the Federal Republican Party was reorganized as the Balearic Federal Republican Center, La Voz del Pueblo stopped being published due to the lack of economic viability that showed the little support it received from the other republican sectors of Mallorca.
