[eng] This paper is focused on the study of two contemporary English travel guidebooks about Mallorca, highlighting the role of travel guides as means of communication that spread the culture, art, history, and gastronomy of thousands of places. The paper conducts a comparative analysis of two markedly different travel guides in English about Mallorca to show the crucial role that guidebooks have played and continue to play in Mallorquin society and the tourism industry. The comparative analysis of the guides “Mallorca, Tour Around the Island” and “Secret Island, Mallorca” is conducted from a historical and sociolinguistic perspective and reaches some critical conclusions on their main features and distinct approaches.
