alumnos no aprenden bien inglés.
[eng]Is quite clear that English has become a necessity nowadays, nevertheless Spain still has
to improve its nevel of English. The council of Europe establishes the guidelines for the
basis of language instruction. One of the most repeated concepts is education through
the communicative approach. Such an approach requires highly skilled teachers to cope
with the demands.
The aim of this study is to investigate which are the reasons why our students do not
learn English well. In this sense, teacher’s competence develops a very important role.
For this reason, the current guidelines for the primary education degrees will be
analysed in order to get to know if they are enough to g such skilled teachers. In
addition, teacher’s opinions and beliefs will be investigated.
A questionnaire has been designed in order to analyse different profiles of teachers
about their beliefs, concerning to different issues. Issues such as teaching motivation,
teacher’s levels of satisfaction regarding their univeristy instruction, self-assesment or
classroom most important concerns will be investigated.. The results demonstrate
dissatisfaction regarding the training received at university. Moreover, teachers claim
further methodological instruction in the teaching programme. Through teacher’s
feedback we can ascertain which are the most important teachers concerns or the
beliefs about what is ‘a good English teacher’.
