[eng] Fibromyalgia syndrome is considered a chronic widespread pain disorder. It is more common in women, and it has a peak incidence between the 20 and 60 years. In addition to the symptoms, it is identified as a disease that affects the biopsychosocial aspects of people who suffer it. Some effective techniques to treat fibromyalgia syndrome are exercise, muscle strength, group exercises, massage, stretching, local heat and some types of electrotherapies. A literature review is performed on the data basis BVS, PUBMED, PEDRO, ENFISPO and SCIELO in order to ascertain if magnetic field therapy is an effective treatment for pain in people with fibromyalgia. 12 studies have been selected and analysed to find an answer to the question purposed. 10 of these studies have been used to extract conclusions. After analysing the studies, it is concluded that magnetic field therapy has shown to have beneficial effects in people with fibromyalgia, and can be an effective technique as a part of the current therapy for people that suffer this disease. Nevertheless, future long term studies with representative samples are needed to determine whether there are adverse effects or not from treatment with magnetic field therapy in people with fibromyalgia to make recommendations based on a good evidence level.
