Analysis of the Aerial Communications of the Balearic Islands Onset & Development

Abstract

[eng] This work has been written intending to provide a broad overview of the Aerial Communications in the Balearic Islands, to define its onset and study its development. First of all, a background of the situation and the key concepts have been introduced, specifically in relation to the Spanish airport network, an outlook of AENA's history and an introduction to each of the airports which will be the aim of the study. To study their onset, and because the data needed to make a deep statistical analysis was not yet collected, a summary of the history of each aerodrome has been done, including Son Bonet which is nowadays out of order in terms of commercial traffic. In relation to the development, and thanks to the gathering of published and non-published data since 1980 until the date, a accumulated growth study has been developed together with a year-to-year increase one. This one will let us observe more easily the changes experienced. The last chapter studies the formation of a hub, a connecting airport, at the Palma de Mallorca one. This part has been done using the data provided by the "Conselleria de Turisme i Esports, del Govern de les Illes Balears", not without introducing first the framework of the topic.

[spa] Este proyecto se ha escrito con la intención de proporcionar una visión general de las comunicaciones aéreas de las Islas Baleares, definiendo su inicio y estudiando su expansión y desarrollo. En primer lugar, se han introducido los conceptos clave y antecedentes históricos, en cuanto a la red de aeropuertos española, un vistazo a la historia de AENA, así como una introducción a cada uno de los aeropuertos que serán objeto de estudio. Para estudiar sus inicios, dado que la información necesaria para hacer un análisis estadístico en detalle no se trataba ni recopilaba, se ha optado por hacer un resumen de la historia de cada aeropuerto, incluyendo Son Bonet que actualmente se encuentra fuera de servicio en cuanto a operaciones de tráfico comercial. En relación a su desarrollo, y gracias a la compilación de datos tanto públicos como privados desde 1980 efectuada hasta la actualidad, un estudio del incremento acumulado de pasajeros ha sido efectuado en términos absolutos junto al de su crecimiento interanual. Éste nos permitirá observar más fácilmente los cambios experimentados. El último capítulo es en relación a la formación de un hub, centro de conexiones aeroportuarias, en el aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca. Para ello, se han utilizado los datos proporcionado por la Consejería de Turismo y Deportes del Gobierno de las Islas Baleares, no sin antes definir un marco conceptual al respecto.
