[eng] Many authors (Coyle, Hood, Marsh, 2010, or Alptekin 1993) believe that
students’ view on world culture can be broadened by carrying out specific
activities and that this will benefit students’ improvement when learning a
foreign language. As part of this didactic proposal, a set of activities within the
English language class context will be carried out with the objective of
improving students’ view on gender equality, their transcultural competence and
their skills in English.
This dissertation gives an overview of the relevant literature on the topics
of culture and language, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL),
coeducation and the place of the cultural and transcultural competence in the
English language class within the secondary school education in Spain. In the
didactic proposal, activities will be developed in order to provide students with a
fair context in which to enrich their critical thinking about topics such as
coeducation and gender equality. The activities will be topic-based and for each
topic, two relevant figures will be discussed. The different activities will be
aimed at different secondary education levels and will work on different skills,
bearing in mind the Government of the Balearic Islands curriculum for
secondary education.
