correspondientes.
[eng] INTRODUCTION: Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a method of introducing complementary feeding
that consists on offering to the child food in solid form, allowing him to bring them to his
mouth, which differs from the traditional feeding method based on triturates where it is the
adult who directs the feeding. This method, although it is novel, there are already has several
studies that prove the benefits and advantages that it can present compared to the traditional
method of feeding, such as the lower prevalence of childhood obesity in children who have
followed this method, the greater preference for them to healthier foods, which leads to the
acquisition of better eating habits, as well as indirect benefits to the rest of the family.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE: to evaluate the differences in the variety and food preferences of babies
at the age of 12, 18 and 24 months; as well as the prevalence of overweight and obesity
derived from it.
HYPOTHESIS: Children who practice BLW will show a greater preference for healthier foods
and a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity compared to children who follow the
traditional method of feeding based on mashed foods.
METHODOLOGY: It will be carried out an analytical, prospective and longitudinal cohort study,
where researchers will compare two groups of subjects differentiated according to the type of
diet they carry out. Measurements and evaluations will be carried out through questionnaires
and food lists to establish the date of introduction of each one, as well as controls for height,
weight and determination of body mass index (BMI) on the corresponding dates.
