[eng] In the context of globalization, a process that characterizes our era and that
has led to the internationalization of the world capitalist market and the
inclusion of respect for human rights and freedoms as a crucial issue on the
agendas of international organizations and institutions, this paper proposes
to reflect on the relationship between tourism and these fundamental rights
and the current challenges that the industry must face.
Based on this unquestionable relationship, it highlights how, despite the
importance of tourism in the development of the economy of the states, it is
also an instrument that favors negative processes, in many cases,
significant attacks on human rights.
Emphasis is placed on sex tourism and human trafficking as harmful
consequences of its development, phenomena that urgently call for the real
involvement of the industry, which must leave inertia behind and assume
the execution of effective actions in its role of leadership of socioeconomic
progress.
