[eng] To improve language teaching, the government of the Balearic Islands has been
reducing the teacher-student ratio in the first foreign language classrooms in
ESO for some years now. In accordance with the regulations, two English
teachers are assigned to each group of pupils during each of the weekly
teaching periods. As a result, many secondary schools in our community divide
the groups in two, separated in different classrooms. But in other centres,
teaching takes place in the same physical space, with two teachers working
together. Therefore, teachers must co-teach. This is done without any prior
training to apply this technique as best as possible. As a result, students have
the resource of two teachers in the classroom, who, however, have no
theoretical knowledge of co-teaching. This study aims to explore the discipline
and make a proposal for an EFL didactic unit that takes co-teaching and its
possibilities as a foundation.
