[eng] Millions of people all around the world play video games daily, making them an
omnipresent form of entertainment in contemporary culture. While some people
may think of video games as a pointless pastime, there is mounting evidence
that they may be an effective teaching tool. The main focus of this paper is on
video games and how they can be integrated and used as a source of
motivation in the EFL class. In the first part, there is a literature revision of how
video games can be beneficial in the EFL class. The second part shows the
results of a study that was conducted to analyze if the use of video games can
contribute positively to English language acquisition. The results show that
video games can indeed foster the acquisition of this language. Finally, a
didactic proposal that was designed to prove the benefits and results of using
video games in a real EFL class context is presented.
