[eng] The chronobiology is a science that studies biologic rhythms, which are periodic variations in organisms. Each individual present a few own rhythms different from the others, differences which are related to the chronotype. In order to analyze the relationship between sexual activity and appetence rhythms with the chronotype, a poll with questions related to activity and sexual appetence have been done, along with Horne & Östberg’s reduced questionnaire adapted to Spanish population (Adan, 1990) to a university subpopulation who lives in a couple or out of their family home with the objective of having more sexual freedom.
The results show that both the activity and sexual appetence follow a circadian rhythm with three peaks of activity and sexual appetence during the day, which are produced within the same time periods and, besides, they correspond with the peaks produced in the testosterone’s cycle both in feminine sex and in the masculine one. It is also possible to observe a clear phase difference, at least between morning ones and evening ones. The results suggest that the activity and sexual appetence are strongly regulated by the rhythm of testosterone secretion, but the environment still produces a greater effect, being the final reason of the sexual activity. In the appetence, the environment does not play such an important role.
