conductual i social).

[eng] Thanks to the efforts that have been made in recent decades, domestic violence has
become a visible phenomenon today, considered one of the greatest social and public
health problems in our society, counting with rigorous data on women who suffer it.
However, when we talk about the children of these women the picture is very different.
While recognizing that domestic violence affects not only the woman who suffers it, but
also members of the family who live with her, the descendants of the victims has been
relegated to a secondary role: the children of these women are not recognized as direct
victims from domestic violence and, consequently, do not have appropriate interventions
and actions to attend their needs. Nowadays there are more studies that point to the need
of the intervention on these children. However, more research is needed to examine the
impact of exposure to domestic violence on children and, based on these, consider the
new demands posed by this situation and act accordingly.
Backed by an extensive theoretical framework, this project is based on a systematic
review of the literature to analyze scientific evidence demonstrating the existence and
support of serious repercussions for the mental health of children who have been exposed
to domestic violence. The results indicate that children exposed to domestic violence have
significant consequences, both short and long term, in different levels of mental health
(physical/bio- physiological, emotional, cognitive, behavioral and social). Based on these
results, it is evident the need for more efforts to develop a solid structure in integral social
assistance to children who are exposed to domestic violence, with special emphasis on
children's mental health as a basis for the optimal development and the well-being
throughout the vital cycle. |
