conductas. |

[eng] In recent years, there has been an increase of self-injurious behaviors in adolescent population.
High levels of dissociation and having one or several personality disorders e.g. Borderline
Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder, are factors that seem to be involved in
self-injurious behaviors. However, little is known about the relationship between these two
factors in this population. Thus, the objective of our research has been to study if there are
relation between personality traits proposed by Millon (2004) and dissociative symptoms in
adolescents who are self-injuring. We performed a cross-sectional and descriptive study with a
sample of 14 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, attended in an infant-juvenile mental
health unit, who had at least one episode of self-injury in the last one year. Clinical and
sociodemographic data have been collected through a semistructured clinical interview.
Personality traits have been evaluated through MACI and dissociative symptoms have been
evaluated using A-DES. The results shows significant correlations between the dissociation
experience Dissociation of the Identity and the personality traits Oppositional and Pessimistic in
self - injuring adolescents. The results show that Dissociated identity appears associated in a
significant way with Oppositional and Pessimistic personality traits and not with Limit traits in
adolescents. We conclude that adolescents with traits of Oppositional and Pessimistic personality
have a high probability of living the dissociative experience of feeling disconnected from their
own body and the world, their identity also being threatened by not being able to identify their
own emotions and behaviors. |
