[eng] BIOPOLIS S.L. is a biotechnology-based company, which has made the
Practicum of the Master in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition. During practices it
has been able to participate and gain knowledge of a project sued by a client. Teaching
Practicum objectives are based on putting into practice the theoretical concepts and skills
learned during the Master. On the other hand, the scientific objectives of the project are
based on analysing the effect of treatment with three microalgae on parameters
associated with type 2 diabetes, as the accumulation of triglycerides and resistance
against oxidative damage in a diabetic model of C. elegans. The background, therefore,
rely on the high prevalence of type 2 diabetes, which requires an alternative for treatment
and prevention. Microalgae are a good option for treatment because of its beneficial
effects on the parameters of interest. Furthermore, it has been used as a study model
the nematode C. elegans, because it has many advantages. The first study was
conducted was based on analysing the accumulation of triglycerides by fluorometry
technique where significant results were obtained. In the second study, only it was
carried out the set-up of the study of survival against induction of oxidative stress. In
conclusion, it can be established that met the learning objectives. On the other hand,
treatment with microalgae A and B significantly decreased fat accumulation. And, in the
second study more trials are needed.
