Abstract

[cat] Després de la Guerra Civil espanyola, la situació educativa de Ciutadella de Menorca poc canvià respecte als anys anteriors a la contesa. L’hegemonia educativa de la població la seguiren ostentant els col·legis religiosos. Aquest fet, juntament amb el posicionament favorable de l’Església cap al nou règim, va donar a aquests centres l’embranzida necessària per seguir imposant la seva disciplina educativa durant dècades. La precarietat de l’ensenyament públic, i la gran devoció religiosa de la població, refermaren aquesta preponderància. Haurien de passar dècades perquè l’ensenyament públic i privat s’igualessin. Eren altres temps, altres mentalitats, on existiren molts ressentiments culpa d’una guerra inútil; però els nens seguien essent nens, i l’assistència a l’escola, amb mètodes millors o pitjors, els ajudaren a créixer com a persones per seguir escrivint la història de Ciutadella en tot el seu conjunt.

[eng] After the Spanish Civil War, the educational situation in Ciutadella de Menorca changed little with regard to the years before the conflict. The population’s educational hegemony was still held by the religious schools. This fact, together with the favourable positioning of the Church towards the new regime, bolstered the religious schools and they were able to impose their educational discipline for decades. This preponderance was strengthened by the precarious public educational system and the outstanding devotion of the population. It took decades to equal the public and the private education. Those were other times, other mind-sets, characterised by many resentments due to a worthless war. Nevertheless, children remained children, and their school attendance, with better or worse methodologies, helped them grow as people to continue writing the history of Ciutadella as a whole.
