World Englishes y cine en el aula

Abstract

[eng] It is obvious nowadays that the English Language has acquired a key role in the present day. As a consequence of the formation of the British Empire, which exported the English language into its colonies and territories, the English language is spoken by millions of speakers worldwide. Therefore, new nativized varieties of English are appearing, also known as World Englishes. Despite the supremacy of the British and American varieties of English, the nativized varieties are equally worth to be known around the world. Thus, the aim of this paper is to reflect not only on the current status of these World Englishes but also explore ways to bring them to the classroom, and film is the chosen resource to do so.

[spa] La tremenda relevancia de la lengua inglesa en el mundo actual es una obviedad. Debido a su historia, la lengua que exporto el Imperio Británico a sus colonias y territorios hoy es hablada por millones de hablantes en todo el mundo, habiendo dado lugar a la creación de variedades de inglés nativizadas, conocidas comúnmente como World Englishes. A pesar de la supremacía de las variedades de inglés nativas como la del Reino Unido o EEUU, estas variedades nativizadas son totalmente legítimas de darse a conocer. Así pues, el objetivo de este artículo es investigar no solo la actualidad de estos World Englishes sino una forma de llevar estas variedades al aula, y el medio seleccionado para hacerlo ha sido el cine.
