-195ºC.
[eng] Cryotherapy is commonly used as a procedure to relieve pain symptoms, particularly in
inflammatory diseases, injuries and symptoms of excessive use. In this case, the therapeutic
treatment that we follow consists in the brief exposure to very cold air in special cryogenic
chambers with controlled temperature. This treatment was called Whole-body cryotherapy (WBC).
In this article we seek to determine if the use of whole body cryotherapy can reduce the recovery
time after muscle injury in high performance athletes. The search method has been through the use
of specific descriptors and booleans in the PubMed and PEDro databases, thus finding 23 valid
articles for the study. As evidence of treatment, it has been observed that the time and temperature
to shorten the recovery period of muscle damage varies within a range of parameters, on the other
hand if it is concluded that it reduces the inflammatory process, and therefore physical pain or
discomfort, by the various physiological pathways, in which the application should be in the short term (immediately, 24h and 48h after exercise), several authors state that the ideal protocol to
follow would be to make sessions where the periods be 2-3 minutes per session under an exposure
ranging from -100°C to -195°C.
