[eng] The island of Hainan, in the south of China, is becoming one of the most
popular tourist destination in Asia. Indeed, China wants to convert this island in
a five star international destination.
But this newborn tourist destination is being progressively defined and still there
is a long way to go in order to consolidate itself as a strong tourist destination.
The aim of this study is to review the development of the Satellite Accounts for
Tourism (SAT) at a regional level and to examine their usefulness to
policymakers, and how far problems with the framework can be passed in a
practical manner.
Firstly, after a description of this tourist destination, I evaluate the
macroeconomic situation of Hainan's tourism sector. Then, I collect information
in order to evaluate the importance of the implementation of the SAT in this
region. Actually, a revision of the TSA classification of Hainan has not been
made yet by the Chinese government. After this, I try to describe the benefits of
the SAT for this destination, and I to find a possible process to develop the SAT
for Hainan.
Finally, some conclusions are drawn. |
