[cat] El treball pretén analitzar el paper estratègic de la complexa activitat realitzada per les grans constructores en el model de creixement de l'economia entre els anys 1970-2018. L’estudi posa en evidència com Espanya és una de les economies on la construcció ha condicionat més les seves pautes de ocupació i creixement, i com desprès del “boom” immobiliari les constructors van cercar noves oportunitats en mercats exteriors. S'analitza la seva evolució històrica, els principals grups de constructores espanyoles, així com la raó i l'impuls del procés d'internacionalització, l’actualitat del sector, el poder d’influència que tenen algunes empreses sobre el govern i finalment la incompatibilitat d’aquest sector amb la sostenibilitat del medi ambient.

[eng] This paper aims to analyze the strategic role represented by the complex activity of large builders in the growth model of the economy between 1970-2018. The work shows how Spain is one of the economies where construction has conditioned more its patterns of growth and employment, and as after the "boom" real estate builders are looking for new opportunities in foreign markets. It analyzes its historical evolution, the main groups of Spanish builders, as well as the reason and impulse of this process of internationalization, the current nature of the sector, the power of influence that some companies have on the government and Finally the incompatibility of this sector with the sustainability of the environment.
