[eng] The investigation and understanding of the oxidative stress response in honeybees (Apis mellifera) could contribute significantly to their preservation. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the changes in the relative mRNA expression of antioxidant enzymes (Catalase, SOD1, SOD2, Tpx3, Tpx4, TrxR1 and Gtpx1), proteins of the electron transport chain (COX1, Cox6b1 and Cyt c) and the key factor in the translation of mitochondrial proteins (IF2mt) in worker bees in presence of the invasive species Vespa velutina. Apiaries were selected from two locations in the Sierra de Tramuntana (Mallorca, Balearic Islands), one location with presence of the Asian hornet and another control. The results showed a significant increase in the transcription of seven of the eleven genes studied in response to oxidative stress, as a result of predation pressure. All in all, changes observed in the upregulation of mitochondrial genes that affect the production of reactive oxygen species and the overexpression of antioxidant genes could suppose an adaptive strategy of bees in presence of the Asian hornet. |
