[eng] Based on the growing trend of application of alternative methods in the field of health, the present review of the literature aims to answer the question on whether music therapy is effective in reducing depression in patients diagnosed with dementia.
In view of the above, it is of particular interest to investigate how the introduction of this technique in nursing practice can benefit health, more specifically in older adults with dementia, because it is a safe method for the patient and provides numerous benefits including the improvement of the physiological, psychological and behavioral state, particularly reducing the depressive states associated with dementia, especially in Alzheimer's, being this the most common type of dementia diagnosed in the elderly population.Out of a total of 183 articles found, only 20 are answering the question posed in the research, fulfilling the predetermined inclusion criteria. In them, it is shown how the inclusion of the music therapy in residences for the elderly helps to reduce pathologies associated with dementia, improving their well-being and, moreover, being an easy-to-implement technique in the health system. |
