El comercio al por menor en la etapa final del Antiguo Régimen. Mallorca (XVIII-XIX)

Abstract

[spa] Se analizan las principales categorías comerciales que en la etapa final del Antiguo Régimen se dedicaban en Mallorca al comercio al por menor de distintos productos. A partir de fuentes de distinta tipología, se ofrece una visión de conjunto de la ciudad de Palma y de las distintas villas de Mallorca (el mundo rural) y se subraya la dificultad de delimitar las funciones propias de cada una; así como la fuerte interrelación entre comercio al por mayor, al por menor y transporte marítimo. Para superar los límites de las fuentes oficiales se propone profundizar en el análisis de una fuente de carácter privado (los inventarios post mortem) sobre los que existe una larga trayectoria historiográfica. A partir de una muestra de dos categorías comerciales concretas (tenderos y taberneros) se enfatiza la idoneidad de dicha fuente para profundizar en el conocimiento de las categorías socio-profesionales. Se presenta, por último, una relación que incluye alrededor de 250 referencias de inventarios localizados en distintos protocolos notariales que pretende servir de guía para investigaciones futuras.

[eng] The main commercial categories that in the final stage of the Old Regime were dedicated in Mallorca to the retail trade of different products are analyzed. From different types of sources, we offer an overview of the city of Palma and the different villages of Mallorca (the rural world) and highlight the difficulty of defining the functions of each one; as well as the strong interrelationship between wholesale, retail and maritime transport. To overcome the limits of official sources, it is proposed to deepen the analysis of a private source (post-mortem inventories) over which there is a long historiographical trajectory. From a sample of two specific commercial categories (shopkeepers and bartenders) the suitability of this source is emphasized to deepen the knowledge of the socio-professional categories. Finally, there is a report that includes around 250 references of inventories located in different notarial protocols that is intended as a guide for future research.
