[eng] Leukemia is the most prevalent childhood cancer and has after-effects in the
affected child as well as in its relatives, mainly in its parents and siblings.
This literature review is carried out in order to determine the impact that leukemia has at
the time of diagnosis, during treatment and years after recovery in the patient and its
family, as well as to determine which interventions can improve the after-effects and
reduce the negative impact that this can have on their lives. 22 studies have been
selected from 4 different databases. Psychological care is needed for children suffering
from leukemia and their parents in order to reduce anxiety, depression and distress,
performing individually an intervention, not only during treatment, but also after
overcoming leukemia. It is essential to support children who after overcoming leukemia
go back to school, since they can have difficulties after returning and in family and
social relationships.
