Market behaviour characteristics of the holiday rental activities in the Balearic Islands

Abstract

[eng] The holiday rental market has rapidly grown during the last decade. It has evolved into a clear alternative to the traditional accommodation sector, as it has generated new economic opportunities to the localsociety. Several factors, such as the irruption of new technologies, have allowed the success of the sector. The present project pretends to manifest the different skills I have acquired doing my degree, analysing how the business model of the main online platform of the market is, how the impacts of the autonomic regulationin the economy from the point of view of some collectives of the Balearic societyhave been, and the main positive and negativeconsequences of the sector in the local economy.

[spa] El mercado del alquiler vacacional ha crecido rápidamente durante la última década. Se ha convertido en una clara alternativa al mercado tradicional del alojamiento, generando nuevas oportunidades de negocio a la sociedad local. Distintos factores, como la irrupción de las nuevas tecnologías, han permitido el éxito del sector. El presente proyecto pretende manifestar las diferentes habilidades que he adquirido durante el grado, analizando como es el modelo de negocio de la compañía más importante del sector, como ha afectado la regulación autonómica en la economía desde el punto de vista de algunos colectivos de la sociedad balear, así como las principales consecuencias positivas y negativas del sector en la economía local.
