[eng] This work analyzes the construction sector in Spain and the Balearic Islands between 1964 and 2011, a sector characterized by high complexity, timing and use of cheap labor. Based on the Law of the Tendency of the Rate of Profit to Fall by Marx (LTRPF), the objective is to analyze the income distribution, the evolution of the productive efficiency and the tendency of the rate of profit to fall; comparing the results of the sector with the whole economy.
Used as a source of information, the “BD.MORES regional database”, the analysis carried out through various macroeconomic variables shows that the construction sector, both in the Balearic Islands and nationally, presents greater inequalities than others with respect to income and it is highly productive in terms of capital. However, it shows similarity with the economy as a whole for the work factor in Spain, but it is less productive in the Balearic Islands. Finally, the declining trend in the rate of profit announced by Karl Marx is confirmed, and the solution that companies take to stabilize the fall in the rate of profit is based on wage moderation, thus increasing the share of surpluses.
