[eng] Sea turtles are key for the functioning of the marine ecosystem, since they
represent a vital role for the marine ecosystem, however, in the last century its
population had been threatened globally mainly because of anthropogenic
causes, for this reason it is important to study in more detail their interactions
with other marine species. The turtle Caretta caretta has several relationships
with different species, one of the most important of those are the ones with
epibionts, those species are adhered to the turtle's shell or body travelling with
them among the oceans. Some epibionts can lead to negative consequences in
the turtle 's health, but on the other hand can be beneficial for its host providing
high value information about turtle's migrations routes when comparing with the
native species. This study is meant to report the abundance of different epibiont
species in C. caretta individuals, and analysing the characteristics of each
epibiont species in order to get the most information about the migration routes
of the turtle's life. Eight different epibiont species were found in the samples,
being the most abundant Chelonibia testudinaria y Lepas anatifera, similar to previous studies. These species have different origins, which inform us about
the moves of turtles over the oceans.
