[eng] Sea sponges produce a variety of chemical compounds beneficial to health, however the ecological functions of these secondary metabolites remain largely unknown. To determine whether the metabolites of the Desmacella annexa sponge have a significant antibiotic effect, the antimicrobial activity of the organic metabolites of five samples of the species D. annexa was analyzed. To carry out this study, the procedure was as follows: an extraction of the biomass with organic solvents, a concentration of the extracts using a rotary evaporator, a fractionation of the extracts using a liquid-liquid separation technique and the antimicrobial activity was evaluated. against two microorganisms: Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis with the Kirby-Bauer method and the determination of the minimum inhibitory concentration. The data obtained show that there were inhibitory effects on the growth of bacteria. It was observed that for the Kirby-Bauer method B. subtilis was sensitive in almost all the extracts, whereas E. coli was sensitive to the fractions soluble in ethyl acetate and methanol. For the minimum inhibitory concentration there was no antimicrobial effect in B. subtilis but there was for E. coli in the fractions soluble in ethyl acetate and acetone. |
